Can metformin damage the kidney and liver?

My friend told me Metformin can be very bad for kidneys and liver in the long run. I'm on this medicine for my diabetes, and now I'm quite worried. Can Metformin really damage both the kidney and liver?

I am also taking metformin and I keep worrying if it's quietly hurting my organs inside. Did anyone else get minor abdominal dull pain or feel extremely fatigued when starting? I am so scared to continue.

I totally understand your anxiety, I spent many nights crying thinking these medicines would ruin my body. But my doctor lovingly explained that uncontrolled diabetes actually damages the liver and kidneys much faster than any medicine ever would.

My mom was super paranoid about this when she got prescribed metformin. Honestly, her doctor said it's a myth and it actually protects the organs by keeping sugar down. Just get the regular blood work done and chill.

Beta, these modern medicines are strong but they are necessary. Metformin generally doesn't harm your liver or kidneys if you take it properly. Drink some warm ginger water to keep your digestion clean, but do not stop your doctor's medicine.

Hey! As a professional, I can assure you metformin is safe for the liver and kidneys. The only rule is that if you already have advanced kidney or liver disease, doctors will stop it. Regular LFT and KFT blood tests will keep you safe.
