Can medication cause weight gain?

Taking new medication for my thyroid condition for the past few months has led to a significant increase in my weight. Despite trying to eat healthy and exercise, it's still going up. Could my medication be the reason for this weight gain?

I understand your worry, I also tried drinking warm lemon water and honey to lose weight, but my doctor told me my thyroid medicines were actually causing the weight gain. Try eating small, fiber-rich meals, but do not stop your prescribed medicines without consulting your doctor.

From what I've experienced with PCOS, some hormonal pills can definitely cause fluid retention or increase appetite. I am not an expert, but tracking my food and being gentle with light yoga helped me cope with the changes. Check with your doctor if it feels too sudden.

I was put on antihistamines last year and gained almost 5 kgs in two months. My doctor explained that they can increase your appetite significantly. Once my course ended and I got back to regular walking, the weight dropped off naturally.

Yes, certain diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas can make you gain weight. I had to strictly manage my carb intake and switch to low-glycemic foods to balance it out. Please talk to your diabetologist about adjusting your dosage.

Yes, medications like steroids, antidepressants, and beta-blockers frequently cause weight gain. I had some severe metabolic complications when I tried to suddenly stop my meds on my own. Please consult your physician; they can safely transition you to an alternative.
