Can malassezia cause hair loss?

I've been battling with a persistent flaky scalp and now I'm noticing my hair is thinning quite a bit. My dermatologist mentioned malassezia being a common fungus. Could this malassezia infection actually be causing my hair loss?

My head has been a smooth highway for years now, but yes, malassezia yeast causes severe dandruff which makes you scratch like crazy. That scratching is what actually breaks the hair roots and causes hair fall. Get an antifungal shampoo before you end up looking like me!

I am seeing so much hair on my brush lately because of this itchy scalp yeast issue. Has anyone else felt super stressed seeing their hair fall out in clumps because of dandruff? I really hope a doctor can fix this soon.

I had a very itchy, flaky scalp last winter and noticed my hair thinning out. Once I started keeping my scalp clean and dry, the itching stopped and my hair started growing back normally. It was definitely the fungal buildup causing the issue.

Actually, yes, yaar. Malassezia is that annoying fungus behind seborrheic dermatitis. It makes the scalp so inflamed and oily that hair starts shedding. You should get a ketoconazole shampoo prescribed by a derm.

My thyroid condition already makes my hair dry and prone to falling out, and a malassezia infection on top of that made it worse. I suggest getting your thyroid levels checked too, along with seeing a skin specialist for the scalp issue.

Please don't ignore a flaky scalp thinking it is just normal winter dandruff. I ignored my malassezia infection for so long that it damaged my hair follicles, and I had to undergo expensive clinical treatments. Go see a dermatologist immediately.

Sweating a lot during workouts can make malassezia grow faster because it loves moisture and oil. Make sure you wash your scalp immediately after heavy training sessions and keep your diet clean to reduce yeast overgrowth.
