Can lupus cause liver damage?

Diagnosed with lupus for almost a decade, I know it can affect various organs. I'm particularly concerned about my liver health. Is it possible for lupus to lead to actual liver damage over time?

I tried various herbal juices thinking they would protect my liver from lupus meds, but actually, some herbs can strain the liver more. It is best to avoid self-treating. Stick to simple home-cooked food and let your doctor guide your liver health.

Lupus can occasionally cause autoimmune hepatitis, or liver enzymes can rise due to heavy medications like methotrexate. It's very manageable if caught early. Just make sure you never skip your routine blood tests and keep your doctor updated.

At this point, my liver and my lupus are constantly fighting over who gets to complain more. Yes, liver damage is a possibility, mostly from the heavy cocktail of drugs we take. Keep getting those blood tests done so your doctor can keep both in check.

I was reading about lupus and was surprised to find that liver involvement, though less common than kidney issues, can happen due to inflammation or medication side effects. It's crazy how much we need to monitor with autoimmune conditions.

My teenager has lupus, and their doctor always monitors liver enzymes closely because of the strong medications. We ensure they stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary over-the-counter painkillers. Please work closely with your specialist to keep the liver safe.
