Can low oestrogen cause weight gain?

As I'm getting older, I've noticed more belly fat and overall weight gain, especially as I approach menopause. My doctor said my oestrogen levels are dropping. Could low oestrogen be causing this weight gain?

In my experience, as our bodies transition and estrogen levels naturally decline, we do tend to hold more fat around the belly. I found that regular practice of gentle yoga and pranayama helped balance my mind and manage my stress-induced weight gain. It is a natural phase of life, so please be gentle with yourself.

I was actually researching this for my mother because she's been struggling with sudden weight gain lately. From what I read, estrogen plays a major role in regulating body weight and glucose metabolism, so when it drops, the body's fat storage pattern changes. It seems very common but definitely needs a doctor's guidance.

Yes, low estrogen absolutely shifts where your body stores fat, usually straight to your midsection, and it slows down your metabolism. I dealt with this during my early perimenopause phase. My best advice is to focus on strength training to build muscle and ask your doctor about hormone level testing to see what options you have.

Hormonally driven weight gain should not be self-diagnosed or treated with random over-the-counter pills. Low estrogen can have other implications for bone density and cardiovascular health. Please consult an endocrinologist or gynecologist to get a safe, clinically supervised treatment plan.

I tried everything from flaxseeds to herbal teas to control my weight when my hormones were acting up. While those natural things gave me some comfort, the real change happened when I got my blood work done and worked with a gynecologist. Don't waste too much time on random remedies; get proper medical advice.

Honestly, my estrogen left the building and decided to leave all this extra belly fat as a parting gift! It's so exhausting when you eat the same as before but the scale just keeps creeping up. I've decided to just laugh it off and let my doctor figure out the hormone balance because my brain is too tired for this.

Yes, low estrogen definitely messes with your metabolism and causes weight gain. Getting a proper hormone panel test done through your doctor is the best way forward.
