Can liver damage cause swelling in legs?

For a few weeks now, my legs have been swelling up, especially around my ankles, by the end of the day. My neighbour said it could be related to my liver, as I do have some enzymes on the higher side. Is it possible that liver damage causes swelling in the legs?

I deal with leg swelling due to my thyroid issues, but my doctor told me that liver and heart issues can also cause it. It is very important to get routine blood profiles and follow up regularly with a specialist.

Yes, fluid retention in the legs, which doctors call edema, is a very common sign of advanced liver trouble. Please do not ignore this symptom. It is highly advisable to schedule a doctor's visit as soon as possible.

Unless you just ran a full marathon yesterday, swelling in both legs is definitely a sign your body is trying to tell you something! Keep those feet elevated for now and make a quick run to the clinic.

I am up at 3 AM looking at my puffy ankles, though in my case it's probably just too much sodium and no sleep! But jokes aside, chronic leg swelling can be a serious sign of liver damage. Please go get it checked out properly.
