Can liver cancer show up in blood tests?

My father recently had a general health check-up, and they did some blood tests. We are waiting for the results, and I was wondering if these routine blood tests can pick up signs of liver cancer. Can liver cancer show up in blood tests, or does it need special screening?

It can be really scary to think about these tests, but remember that blood tests are just the first step. They look for certain liver enzymes and a marker called AFP, which can point towards a problem, but they always use scans to confirm. Just take it one step at a time, we're here for you.

Hey, don't stress too much about this! While a blood test like AFP can raise a red flag or show some liver strain, it cannot give a 100% sure diagnosis of cancer on its own. Just talk to your doctor, they will probably suggest a quick ultrasound or CT scan to be completely sure.

My grandmother used to say that regular health checks are important as we age. For liver health, blood tests like AFP can sometimes indicate a problem, but our family doctor always says a scan is necessary for confirmation. Please trust your doctor's advice and get the recommended tests done.

To be realistic, you can't rely only on blood tests to detect or rule out liver cancer. If there is a high suspicion, doctors will immediately order a triple-phase CT scan or MRI. Save your time and energy, and get the proper imaging done directly under a specialist's supervision.

When we went to the hospital for my relative's checkup, the specialist clearly said that while blood tests show liver abnormalities, only a biopsy or high-resolution imaging can confirm cancer. I suggest you consult a good gastro-oncologist and ask them to explain the reports clearly.

Actually, standard LFTs just show how well your liver is functioning, but specific tumor markers like AFP can indicate liver cancer in some cases. It's not a definitive test though. It's always best to keep your diet clean and follow up with a proper diagnostic scan as recommended by your physician.
