Can jackfruit be eaten in pregnancy?

In my second trimester, my mother-in-law keeps telling me to avoid jackfruit, saying it's "garam" for pregnancy. I really like jackfruit, especially when it's in season. Can I eat jackfruit safely during pregnancy, or should I really avoid it?

Yes, absolutely, jackfruit is perfectly safe to eat during pregnancy as long as it is consumed in moderate amounts. It is rich in vitamins, fiber, and potassium, which are actually good for you. Just avoid overeating it to prevent any stomach gas or indigestion.

You can definitely eat cooked jackfruit as a vegetable, and even moderate amounts of the ripe fruit. Just make sure it is washed well and cooked hygienically. If you have gestational diabetes, limit the ripe one since it is quite high in natural sugars.

In our old days, we were told that jackfruit is 'garam' (produces heat) in the body, so we avoided eating too much of it during early pregnancy. Having a few pieces of ripe jackfruit occasionally is completely fine, but do not eat too much of it in the first trimester.

I was also terrified of eating jackfruit during my pregnancy because everyone in my family was giving conflicting advice, and it made me so anxious. Finally, I asked my doctor who assured me it was totally fine in small portions. Trust your doctor and don't stress over every single bite.

Cooked raw jackfruit is a great vegetarian meat substitute and contains good fiber and nutrients for pregnant women. However, ripe jackfruit has a high glycemic index, so watch the portion sizes to keep your blood sugar stable. Balance it with plenty of green vegetables.

Yes, dear, you can eat it. I ate jackfruit curry during both my pregnancies and my kids are perfectly healthy. Just eat it fresh and don't eat too much at once, as it can be heavy to digest.
