Can inguinal hernia cause weight gain?

I have an inguinal hernia and I've been struggling with unexplained weight gain recently, despite trying to eat healthy. I'm wondering if there's any connection. Can an inguinal hernia cause weight gain?

Haan na, actually standard hernia directly weight gain nahi karata. But what happens is, because of the pain, hum exercise karna bilkul band kar dete hain aur activity level ekdum kam ho jata hai. Usi wajah se weight badh jata hai. Have you noticed any change in your daily routine because of the pain?

Directly, a hernia won't cause weight gain, but my fitness tracker showed a massive drop in my daily steps when I was dealing with mine. Because walking and lifting hurts, your calorie burn drops significantly. If you're gaining weight, try logging your meals on an app to match your lower activity levels for now.

I can only speak from my own experience with an inguinal hernia last year. I didn't gain weight directly from the hernia itself, but I put on about 4 kilos in two months because I was sitting on the couch all day to avoid pain. Once I got my surgery done and started moving again, my weight went back to normal.

Hey, don't stress yourself out too much. A hernia doesn't change your metabolism or cause direct weight gain. It's just that the physical discomfort forces you to rest, which can lead to a few extra pounds. Take it easy on yourself, focus on healing first, and you can easily work on your fitness later.

I've seen some weird forum posts claiming hernias cause bloating and massive weight gain, but that's mostly nonsense. If you're experiencing sudden, rapid weight gain or severe swelling, don't try to self-diagnose online. Go to a doctor and get your thyroid or kidney functions checked to find the real issue.

Unless your hernia is made of pure chocolate, it won't directly make you gain weight! Jokes apart, it's just the 'sofa lifestyle' we end up adopting because moving around hurts. Don't worry, once the doc fixes that little tear, you'll be back to burning those calories in no time.

I totally feel you, it's so frustrating! When I had my abdominal issue, I couldn't do my usual workouts and the scale started creeping up, which made me feel so down. Just focus on eating clean, simple home-cooked meals for now since you can't burn it off. Be gentle with your body!

While a hernia itself shouldn't cause weight gain, sudden abdominal swelling can sometimes be mistaken for it. If you notice rapid swelling, severe pain, or difficulty passing stool, please don't wait to see if it resolves. Get it checked by a specialist immediately to rule out any complications.
