Can i use my hsa for weight loss surgery?

I'm seriously considering weight loss surgery, and I know it's a big expense. I've been contributing to my HSA for years. I was wondering if it's permissible to use my HSA funds to cover the costs associated with weight loss surgery.

I am just reading about HSA rules for the first time. Can we really use it for such a major surgery? Does the doctor have to prove to the bank that it is urgent, or is a normal prescription enough?

Hey, don't stress too much about the finances. Yes, HSA absolutely covers bariatric surgery if your doctor recommends it for health issues. Just get the medical necessity letter and you are good to go!

With PCOS, managing weight is such a battle, and some of my friends have considered this surgery. Yes, HSA allows it, but please check your policy guidelines carefully first. They are very particular about having a doctor's certification.

I just had my gastric bypass three months ago and paid entirely through my HSA. The process was super smooth because my surgeon's clinic provided a detailed letter of medical necessity. Just submit that along with the hospital bills.
