Can i sleep on my side after wisdom teeth removal?

I got my wisdom teeth removed this morning, and my cheek is quite swollen. I usually sleep on my side, but I'm worried it might make the swelling worse or cause pain. Is it okay to sleep on my side after wisdom teeth removal, or should I try to sleep on my back?

My dentist told me that keeping the head elevated for the first 48 hours is key to reducing swelling. If you sleep on your side, sleep on the opposite side of the extraction and keep your head propped up.

I was so scared of bleeding on my pillow after my wisdom tooth extraction! Actually, sleeping on your side is fine if you elevate your head with two pillows, just don't sleep directly on the side that was operated on.

My daughter had her lower wisdom teeth out last month. She slept on her side but we put a soft towel over her pillow in case of any drool or minor bleeding, which is very normal for the first night.

As a diabetic, healing takes a bit longer for me so I had to be very careful. Side sleeping is fine, just make sure you don't press your hand against the cheek, and stick to sugar-free cold liquids to avoid irritating the area.

Yes, you can sleep on your side, but try to sleep on the side that wasn't operated on. Keep your head elevated to help with the swelling.
