Can i lay on my back during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and I usually find it most comfortable to sleep on my back. My sister told me it's not safe for the baby and I should avoid it. Is it really dangerous to lie on my back during pregnancy, especially for longer periods while sleeping?

Please try to avoid sleeping on your back, especially after the second trimester. I ignored this advice during my first pregnancy and started feeling very dizzy and short of breath. If you feel any discomfort or weird sensations, please contact your doctor immediately.

I know how frustrating it is when you just want to lie down comfortably but feel restricted by all these rules. It used to make me so anxious. Just remember that if you accidentally roll onto your back at night, don't panic, your body will naturally wake you up if it feels uncomfortable.

My wife loved her midnight snacks but hated sleeping on her side! Our gynaecologist told us that sleeping on the left side is best for blood flow. We got her one of those huge U-shaped pregnancy pillows, and she could eat her late-night cookies comfortably while staying on her side.

Haha, unless you have superglue on your back, you're bound to roll over in your sleep anyway! Don't stress too much about it. Just start on your side, use pillows to block yourself, and let your body do the rest.

From the second trimester onwards, lying on your back puts pressure on a major blood vessel, which can reduce oxygen to the baby. To save time and avoid sleep disruption, invest in a good pregnancy pillow to support your side-sleeping. It's the most practical solution.

I completely understand the fear of doing something wrong while sleeping, I used to wake up terrified if I found myself on my back. But honestly, your body is very smart and will alert you with dizziness or discomfort before any harm happens. Just gently roll back to your side.

Beta, try to sleep on your left side as much as possible as it improves blood circulation to the baby. If you must lie on your back, propping yourself up with pillows at a 45-degree angle can help relieve the pressure. Always discuss your sleep comfort with your doctor during your routine visits.
