Can i eat spices during pregnancy?

I love spicy food, but ever since I got pregnant, everyone is telling me to avoid it. My cravings are real though. Can I still add a normal amount of spices to my food, or is it better to cut them out completely during pregnancy?

Yes, you can definitely eat spices in normal quantities. If heavy spices give you mild heartburn, try to keep your meals lighter. A gentle 20-minute walk after lunch or dinner also really helps with digestion and keeps acidity at bay during pregnancy.

If we stopped eating spices in India during pregnancy, half our population wouldn't be here! Don't worry, your baby won't come out spicy. Just tone down the green chillies a bit unless you want to spend all day fighting heartburn on the toilet.

Spices like turmeric, cumin, and ginger are wonderful for digestion and immunity in pregnancy. However, try to avoid excessively hot or processed red chilli powders, as they can disturb your body's natural balance. Eating simple, sattvik food keeps the mind calm.

Yaar, actually normal ghar ka spicy food is totally fine. Just don't go eating extra spicy schezwan or street food every day. Your stomach is already sensitive right now, so excessive spice will just give you bad acidity.

I had terrible morning sickness and could only tolerate spicy food during my first trimester. I ate normal spicy sambar and rasam daily and my baby is perfectly healthy. Just drink plenty of water and have some dahi if you feel any burning.

I was just reading about this! Apparently, spices don't harm the baby at all because they are cushioned inside, but they can definitely make your own acid reflux worse. So keeping it medium-spicy seems to be the best balance for comfort.

When we asked our doctor at Lilavati Hospital about this, she said normal Indian cooking spices are completely safe and even good for digestion. She just warned us against extremely spicy outside food due to infection risks. Check with your doctor if you have severe acid reflux.

I used to worry that eating spicy food would cause early labor or hurt the baby, so I totally understand your fear. But honestly, normal home-cooked spices are very safe. Just eat what your stomach comfortably tolerates and don't stress over it.
