Can hyperparathyroidism cause weight gain?

For the past year, unexplained weight gain has been a struggle, and my doctor recently identified that I have hyperparathyroidism. I'm trying to figure out if these two issues are connected. Could hyperparathyroidism be directly causing me to gain weight?

Sometimes thyroid and parathyroid issues slow down our body, leading to weight gain. Eating light, fresh foods and drinking warm water can help with digestion. However, you must see an endocrinologist for a proper hormonal checkup.

Yes, many people with hyperparathyroidism complain of fatigue and weight changes because it affects metabolism. The best way is to address the underlying calcium issue. Keep a journal of your symptoms and discuss them clearly with your specialist.

When the endocrine system is disturbed, the body's natural balance is lost, which can cause weight changes and fatigue. Gentle yoga practices can support your well-being. But do continue with your medical treatments as advised by your doctor.

Don't blame all weight gain on parathyroid issues without getting actual blood reports. Many random online articles claim this, but you need proper clinical evaluation. Go to a reputed doctor and get your PTH and calcium tested.

I ignored my sudden weight gain and constant tiredness for a whole year, thinking it was just old age. It turned out to be a hormonal issue that caused other complications. Please do not delay getting your hormone levels checked by a doctor.
