Can heart damage from sleep apnea be reversed?

I've recently been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, and the doctor said it's already affecting my heart. I'm wondering if the heart damage caused by sleep apnea can actually be reversed with treatment.

Yes, there is definitely hope! If you start using a CPAP machine regularly and make some lifestyle changes, a lot of the strain and mild damage to your heart can actually improve over time. Just keep up your spirit and follow your doctor's advice carefully!

My dad has severe sleep apnea and his heart was taking a heavy hit with high BP and strain. Once he started using the CPAP machine and lost some weight, his heart function numbers actually improved. It takes time, but treating the sleep apnea definitely helps reverse the strain.

Early cardiovascular changes caused by sleep apnea, such as mild cardiac hypertrophy or high blood pressure, can indeed be partially or fully reversed with consistent CPAP therapy. However, the extent of recovery depends on how long the condition went untreated. Consulting a cardiologist and sleep specialist is the best course of action.

Alongside your sleep apnea treatment, keeping an active lifestyle can play a major role in restoring your cardiovascular health. Regular, gentle walking for 30 minutes daily helps strengthen the heart muscles and manages blood pressure, provided your doctor has cleared you for exercise.

Treating sleep apnea can help your heart recover, but you need to plan your budget for it. The sleep study test and a good CPAP machine can cost a decent amount of money upfront, so check if your health insurance covers them. It is a necessary investment to prevent expensive heart treatments later.
