Can hard water give you dandruff?

Ever since I moved into my hostel, my hair has felt weird and my scalp is really flaky and itchy. My roommate told me it might be because of the hard water supply here; can hard water actually give you dandruff?

I have been facing a lot of itchy white flakes lately since I moved to my hostel, and someone said it might be because of the hard water here. Is it really dandruff, or just dry scalp peeling off? Should I use a specific shampoo for this?

Don't fall for random internet hacks like putting vinegar or lemon in your hair to fight hard water dandruff. Half of these DIYs make the scalp irritation much worse. If your dandruff is severe, just visit a dermatologist and get a proper medical shampoo prescribed.

Haan yaar, hard water se hair wash karo toh scalp ekdum dry ho jata hai, and then flakes start falling. It builds up on the scalp and blocks the hair follicles, na. Try using drinking water for the last mug of rinse, it actually helps a lot.

I totally get it, that constant itching and the white flakes on dark shirts can be so embarrassing. Hard water leaves mineral deposits that dry out your scalp, making it flake like dandruff. Try applying a few drops of tea tree oil mixed with aloe vera gel to soothe the itchiness.

Hey, don't worry, this is a very common issue and completely fixable. Hard water dries the scalp, which triggers excess sebum production and leads to flaking. Just get a tap filter and wash your hair with lukewarm water, never hot water. It will settle down in a couple of weeks.

Yes, hard water makes the scalp dry and flaky. An easy home fix is to mix one spoon of apple cider vinegar in a mug of clean water and use it as a final rinse after shampooing. It balances the scalp pH and cuts through the mineral buildup cheaply.

Yes, the mineral buildup from hard water irritates the scalp and causes flaking. Try using a ketoconazole shampoo once a week if the itching gets too bad.

My scalp has its own snowfall season thanks to the hard water in my building! It’s not actual fungal dandruff, just our poor dry scalp crying for help under all that calcium. A good hydrating scalp serum works like magic to stop the drama.
