Can hard water cause hair fall?

My hair has become so dry and rough ever since I started living in this new apartment, and the hairfall has also increased a lot. Could the hard water in our building actually be making my hair fall out, or is it something else?

Yes, hard water definitely makes hair dry and weak, leading to breakage. A simple solution is to buy a hard water water softener filter for your bathroom tap. We got one installed last year and honestly, it made a huge difference without costing too much.

It can dry out the scalp, but also check your nutrition. I noticed my hair thinning when my protein intake dropped, so hard water isn't always the only culprit. Drink plenty of water and maybe try using drinking water or RO water for your final hair rinse.

My grandmother always insisted on washing hair with well water or rain water, saying tap water ruins it. But when my hair fall got really severe, I consulted our family dermatologist first. They suggested some mild serums and told me to use filtered water for head baths, which worked wonders.

I totally get it, seeing bunch of hair in the drain every morning is so stressful. The hard water minerals build up on the scalp and make the hair shafts super brittle. Try using a clarifying shampoo once a week to wash off that buildup, it really helps ease the tension.

Honestly, I used to panic like crazy seeing my hair fall out after moving to a new city with hard water. But once I realized it was just surface-level dryness and not permanent balding, I relaxed. Just start using a good conditioner and maybe a soft water mug for the final wash, it gets better!

Beta, hard water is indeed very rough on the hair roots and strips away natural oils. You can try applying a little lukewarm coconut oil mixed with a drop of lemon juice before washing. But if the hair fall doesn't stop, please consult a proper doctor to check if there is any other internal reason.
