Can going gluten free cause weight loss?

My cousin lost a lot of weight after going gluten-free. I'm also trying to shed some kilos, so I wanted to know if going gluten-free generally helps with weight loss.

Man, I tried going gluten-free last month thinking I will magically lose 5 kgs. Actually, I just ended up staying awake at 2 AM craving regular rotis and crying over gluten-free bread that tasted like cardboard. If you cut junk food you will lose weight anyway, no need to blame poor gluten for it.

My family kept telling me to stop eating rice and wheat together, but honestly, my doctor said going gluten-free only helps if you have an actual sensitivity. If you just eat gluten-free packaged snacks instead of regular ones, the calories are still the same. Better to consult a dietitian first before cutting out whole food groups.

Actually weight loss depends on calorie deficit, yaar. If you replace your normal chapati with expensive gluten-free bread but keep eating oily cheese on top, nothing will change. I tried it for two weeks and got so irritated with the food options that I went back to normal home food.

With my PCOS, I was desperate to lose weight and tried going gluten-free for a few months. Personally, it helped reduce my bloating a bit, but the weight loss was very minimal. Everyone's body reacts differently to these diets, so please don't push yourself too hard without asking a doctor first.

As someone managing diabetes, I have to be very careful with my carbs. Many gluten-free alternatives like potato starch or tapioca actually have a very high glycemic index, which can spike your blood sugar rapidly. Don't assume gluten-free means healthy or low-calorie, always check with your doctor first.

In our days we never had these fancy terms like gluten-free, we just ate simple home-cooked meals and stayed active. I have seen many young people in my family try this trend recently. It only works if you stop eating heavy bakery items and processed stuff, otherwise simple homemade chapatis never harmed anyone.

Honestly dont fall for the hype guys. My roommate went gluten free to lose weight fast but those special foods in the supermarket are so expensive. When I checked the labels they actually have more sugar to make them taste good. Just normal portion control and daily walks are much better and cheaper.

Yaar, life is too short to give up on delicious wheat parathas and naans! If you go gluten-free you might lose weight just because you are eating less variety, not because gluten is bad. For me, enjoying everything in limit and going for a run is much more satisfying.

Beta, naturally gluten-free grains like jowar, bajra, and ragi are very good for the body and we have been eating them for generations. If you want to lose weight, try including these millets in your daily diet instead of buying readymade gluten-free packets. Drink warm water with a little jeera in the morning to help digestion naturally.

I was thinking of trying this because my weight is stuck, but I am so scared of getting nutritional deficiencies. Has anyone here actually lost weight permanently by going gluten-free? Or did you just gain it all back once you started eating normal food again? Please share your experience.
