Can gluten intolerance cause weight gain?

Despite trying to eat healthy, I've been struggling with unexplained weight gain for a while now. I was wondering if gluten intolerance could be a factor in causing weight gain.

I can only speak from my experience, but before I was diagnosed, I was constantly bloated and gained 5 kgs without changing my food. Once I cut out gluten completely, the stubborn weight finally dropped.

Yes, it can. People think intolerance only causes weight loss, but the inflammation and bloating can actually make you put on weight. I always suggest keeping a food diary to track how your body reacts to wheat.

When our digestive fire or digestive system is irritated by things like gluten, it causes swelling and water retention in the body. Gentle yoga and a simple, wheat-free diet helped restore my body's natural balance.

If your gut is inflamed due to gluten, your metabolism can slow down, leading to unexpected weight gain. Keep up your strength training, but try substituting wheat with gluten-free grains for a month.

I noticed on my weight tracker that my weight would spike by 1-2 kgs whenever I had heavy gluten meals. It's usually inflammatory water weight. Try tracking your sodium and wheat intake to see if there is a pattern.
