Can fungus cause hair loss?

My scalp has been very itchy and flaky, and I'm seeing patches where my hair seems to be falling out more. My aunt told me it could be a fungus. Is it possible that a fungus on the scalp can cause hair loss?

According to my health tracker app's database, scalp fungal infections like ringworm are a leading cause of sudden, localized hair loss. It causes inflammation that makes hair fall out from the roots. You can easily track your recovery once you start an antifungal routine.

Yes, certain fungal species can invade the hair shaft and cause breakage or shedding. Since there are different types of scalp conditions, a dermatologist's advice is best to get the exact oral or topical antifungal treatment you need.

Sweaty workouts can lead to fungal buildup if you leave your hair damp for too long, which weakens the roots. I make sure to wash my hair regularly and maintain a clean diet with plenty of vitamins. Keep the scalp dry and hygienic.

I know how terrifying it is to see your hair falling out, it literally kept me awake for nights. Yes, fungus can cause hair loss, but please remember it is fully reversible once the scalp heals. Take a deep breath, it will be okay.

Having PCOS makes my hair prone to thinning anyway, so I am very cautious. If you get a fungal infection on top of hormonal issues, the hair fall can get worse. I would suggest seeing a dermatologist to rule out other scalp issues first.

I was just reading an article on scalp health and learned that fungal infections like tinea capitis actually digest keratin in our hair. This makes the strands super brittle, causing them to snap off near the scalp. Really interesting but scary!
