Can fungi cause hair loss?

I've been experiencing significant hair thinning, and my barber suggested I might have some sort of scalp infection. Can different types of fungi on the scalp actually be a reason for hair loss?

Yes they do! Fungal infections love moisture and can weaken your hair roots. But don't worry, once you treat the scalp, your hair will bounce back to normal! 🌸

Between my night shifts and sweaty gym sessions, my scalp became a breeding ground for fungi. My hair was falling out faster than my bank balance! Trust me, keep your hair dry and use an antifungal lotion.

My dermatologist explained that fungi like Malassezia feed on scalp sebum, causing inflammation and hair shedding. He told me that temporary hair loss from this is called telogen effluvium. He prescribed a specific 2% ketoconazole shampoo which resolved it.

Yes, fungal issues on the skin can weaken the roots and cause hair to fall out. Keep your combs clean and do not share them. May you recover soon.

In our time, we used to wash our hair with neem water to keep scalp infections away. Fungi can definitely cause hair to thin out, but it is not permanent. Keep your scalp clean and use simple, natural hygiene methods.

I have these circular red patches on my scalp and my hair is coming out in clumps there. I am so scared it is permanent baldness. Has anyone else experienced hair loss due to scalp fungus? Did it grow back?

Fungal issues can cause hair fall, but don't ignore other factors. Since I have thyroid issues, my doctor always checks my hormone levels whenever I complain of hair loss. Get your blood tests done alongside scalp treatment to be sure.

Fungi belong on mushrooms in our pizza, not on our heads! Yes, they cause hair fall by irritating the scalp. Get a medicated wash, clean your hats, and your hair will stop running away from you.

I totally relate to this! Last monsoon, my scalp got super itchy and I lost so much hair due to a fungal infection. I stopped tying my wet hair and started drying it thoroughly under the fan, which helped a lot.

Sweating during heavy workouts can trap moisture on the scalp, inviting fungi that cause hair loss. I always wash my hair post-workout and eat a zinc-rich diet to keep my scalp immunity high. Keep it clean and dry!
