Can fungal infections cause hair loss?

My hair fall has increased quite a bit, and my scalp often feels irritated and sometimes has small flakes. I'm wondering if there's an underlying cause. Can fungal infections on the scalp really cause hair loss?

My 8-year-old son got a fungal ringworm on his scalp from school, and it left a small bald patch. We were so scared, but the doctor gave an antifungal cream and syrup. The hair grew back completely within two months, so keep patience.

Actually yes, fungal infections like severe dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis can weaken the roots big time. I faced this last monsoon, yaar. My hair was shedding like crazy until I got an antifungal lotion from my skin doc.

Yes, it can. I went to Apollo Clinic for my scalp itching and the doctor clearly explained that fungal spores damage the hair shafts, leading to breakage. Do not self-medicate with random OTC shampoos; ask your doctor for a proper medicated prescription.

Haan na, fungal infection se scalp par bohot itching hoti hai aur baal jhadne lagte hain. We think it is normal hair fall, but it is actually a skin issue. Please don't apply heavy coconut oil on active fungus, it makes it worse, ho na.

I had a similar issue when I used to travel in local trains with wet hair. The sweat and humidity created a scalp fungus which caused terrible hair loss. The best thing is to keep your scalp dry and avoid heavy oiling until the infection clears.
