Can fosamax cause hair loss?

I've been on Fosamax for my bones for quite some time now. Lately, I've noticed a significant increase in hair fall, much more than usual. Is there a possibility that Fosamax could be a cause for my hair loss?

Yes, hair thinning is sometimes reported by people taking this medication. Please try not to stress too much as stress can also increase hair fall. Take care and consult your doctor for a solution.

My mother was prescribed Fosamax for her osteoporosis and she started noticing her hair thinning a lot. We were quite worried, so we started giving her curry leaves and a mild protein diet which helped a bit. Do discuss this with her doctor once.

While hair loss is listed as a rare side effect of Fosamax, many women in my support group have experienced it. Make sure you are taking adequate calcium and vitamin D as prescribed. Sometimes a simple vitamin deficiency is the actual culprit behind the hair fall.

I am barely sleeping five hours a night and my own hair is leaving me fast! But jokes aside, my aunt had the exact same issue with Fosamax. She had to ask her doc to switch the osteoporosis medicine because she couldn't tolerate the hair loss.

I just started Fosamax a month ago and my hairbrush is full of hair every single day. I am so scared of going bald. Is this really because of the medicine, or is it just the season change? Has anyone else experienced this?

I faced severe hair shedding while on Fosamax last year. My doctor confirmed it was a reaction and changed my prescription to a different class of drug. My hair started recovering slowly after three months, so there is definitely hope!

At my age, I have realized that medicines have all sorts of minor reactions. I took similar bone pills and noticed some hair fall, but it eventually stopped as my body adjusted. Don't worry too much, our health and bones are far more important than a few strands of hair.

Before blaming the medicine entirely, look at your protein intake. Many vegetarians don't get enough amino acids which are essential for hair keratin. Try adding sprouted moong and paneer to your daily meals and see if it makes a difference.
