Can forteo cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed Forteo for my osteoporosis, and I've been taking it for about six months now. I feel like my clothes are getting tighter, and I've gained a few kilos. Can Forteo medication cause weight gain?

My aunt was on Forteo injections for her bone density and she did feel a bit bloated and gained some weight. But honestly, it was mostly water retention and not actual fat. Keep track of your daily diet and see if that is the real reason.

Forteo is generally taken for osteoporosis, and weight gain is not a very common side effect mentioned. However, some people do report mild swelling or joint discomfort which limits their walking. Try to stay gently active if your bones allow.

As a health professional, I can tell you that direct weight gain from Forteo is quite rare. Sometimes hormone changes or reduced physical activity due to bone pain cause the scale to go up. Keep an eye on your sodium intake and check with your doc.

Forteo is already a very expensive medicine, and dealing with side effects can add up if we have to run more tests. If you suspect weight gain, discuss it during your next scheduled scan or doctor visit to save on extra consulting fees. Monitor it at home first.

I felt so bloated and heavy when I started Forteo, and it really messed with my mood and body image. It is so frustrating when you are trying to heal your bones but feel worse in other ways. Please be kind to yourself, your body is going through a lot.
