Can expired pregnancy test give false negative?

My husband and I are trying for a baby. I took a home pregnancy test, and it came back negative, but I just realized the kit was expired by a few months. Can an expired pregnancy test give a false negative result?

I am a bit confused about this. Is it always better to buy a fresh kit from the pharmacy, or should we go get a blood test done at a lab to be absolutely sure?

I was reading up on this because my friend had a scare. Apparently, the chemical strip inside the kit degrades after the expiry date, which can definitely make it fail to detect the hormone, leading to a false negative.

My gynecologist clearly told me that expired kits are highly unreliable. The hCG-binding antibodies on the strip lose their sensitivity over time, so you should always check the expiry date before testing.

I got a false negative once using an old kit I found in my bathroom drawer. When I tested again with a fresh kit the next day, it showed a clear positive. Always buy a new one for peace of mind.

Yes, absolutely. An expired kit is completely useless because the chemical accuracy is compromised. Just throw it away, buy a fresh one, and use the first morning urine for an accurate result.

Yes, expired kits can definitely give incorrect results. It is best to purchase a new pack from your local chemist and test again in the morning.
