Can esomeprazole cause weight gain?

I've been taking esomeprazole for my acidity issues for quite some time now. I've noticed a little weight creep recently, which is unusual for me. Could esomeprazole be causing this weight gain, or is it something else entirely?

Bro, I take this pill daily because my late-night work shifts give me terrible acidity. I have gained a few kilos, but honestly, I think it's more from my midnight snacking than the medicine itself!

I was on esomeprazole for severe GERD for six months and noticed some weight gain. My doctor explained that as the acid reflux subsided, my digestion improved and I was simply able to eat more food comfortably. Once I watched my portions, my weight stabilized.

Yes, some people do experience mild weight changes or bloating on this medicine. Please discuss it with your doctor so they can adjust your treatment safely.

I had my annual checkup at a very good hospital recently. The gastroenterologist mentioned that proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole don't directly cause weight gain, but you should ask your doctor clearly if your bloating or weight change is due to something else.

My mother told me to drink cold milk for acidity instead of taking pills long-term. My doctor also advised that while esomeprazole is great for short-term relief, using it for years can affect gut bacteria and weight, so we should always review the dosage.
