Can eating too little cause weight gain?

I've been skipping breakfast and sometimes lunch, hoping to lose weight by eating less overall. However, I haven't seen much change on the scale. Could eating too little food actually make it harder to lose weight or even cause me to gain some?

In my experience, when I was surviving on just salads and black coffee, my weight actually increased by 3 kgs. Once I went back to normal home-cooked dal chawal and regular meals, my weight stabilized. It was a weird experience.

If you eat too little, your body drops its metabolic rate to survive, which makes you burn fewer calories. When you eventually eat normally, you gain weight fast. Keep your calories in a safe range and focus on lifting light weights.

I tried a crash diet last year and ended up with severe gallbladder issues and a messed up liver profile. Gaining weight back was the least of my problems. Please see a medical professional before starving your body like this.

I had this exact issue and discovered it was actually my thyroid acting up because of extreme stress and dieting. Please get a TSH, T3, and T4 test done. Regular doctor follow-ups are crucial if your weight doesn't match your food intake.
