I can only share what I did during my pregnancy—I completely stayed away from raw fish sushi because of the food poisoning risk. I switched to cucumber and avocado rolls instead, which satisfied my cravings without any worry. It was much safer for my peace of mind.
Our elders always advise eating fully cooked hot food during this time, and our doctor also strictly said no to raw seafood. Raw fish sushi can carry harmful bacteria like listeria which is dangerous for the baby. If you really want sushi, go for the fully cooked vegetarian or cooked tempura options.
The main concern with sushi during pregnancy is raw fish, which can have parasites or high mercury levels. I always tell people to just stick to well-cooked seafood or vegetarian sushi rolls to be safe. It is not worth risking a severe stomach infection right now.
My doctor clearly explained that raw fish poses a risk of listeriosis, which can lead to serious pregnancy complications. Even if the restaurant is high-end, the risk remains. You can safely eat sushi only if it contains fully cooked ingredients, like cooked crab, shrimp, or vegetables.

Don't worry, you don't have to give up sushi completely! Just make sure you only order the veg options like avocado or asparagus rolls, or cooked chicken rolls. Avoid any raw fish for a few more months to keep yourself and the baby safe, okay?
