Can drinking a lot of water cause vomiting?

I've been trying to stay very hydrated and drinking a lot of water, maybe 4-5 litres a day. Sometimes I feel a bit nauseous after drinking a lot quickly. Can drinking excessive amounts of water actually cause vomiting?

Yes, if you chug a huge amount of water very quickly, it can definitely make you feel nauseous or vomit. I have to drink a lot of water because of my diabetes, but I always sip it slowly throughout the day instead of gulping it down.

My son used to do this after playing football, he would drink two whole glasses of cold water in one go and then throw up. I taught him to take small sips and wait a bit. If you drink too fast on an empty stomach, the body just rejects it.

Chill, don't stress too much about it! It usually happens when you force yourself to drink way too much water at once, making your stomach super full. Just keep a water bottle near you and take normal sips throughout the day, you'll be fine.

Personally, I experienced this when I tried to complete my daily water target by drinking 1 liter in 10 minutes. My stomach felt bloated and I actually vomited. Now I just drink half a glass every hour and I feel much better.
