Can diabetics take vitamin c 1000mg?
I was told by a friend to take Vitamin C 1000mg daily for better immunity, especially now. I have gestational diabetes and am breastfeeding. Is this high dose of Vitamin C safe for a diabetic mother?

You can take it, but 1000mg is quite a high dose and most excess gets flushed out in your urine anyway. I track my micronutrients on my health app and found that a lower dose or just getting it from citrus food works much better. Check with your doc to see if your kidneys need that high a dose.
My dad is diabetic and he takes those 1000mg vitamin C tablets during winters to avoid catching a cold. His doctor said it is totally fine, but warned us to avoid the effervescent fizzy tablets because they have added sodium and sugars. Just get the plain swallowable ones.
A 1000mg dose of Vitamin C is pretty common for recovery, but honestly, unless you are fighting a severe cold or doing heavy training, it might be overkill. I prefer getting my Vitamin C from natural foods like amla and bell peppers alongside my workouts, which is much better for blood sugar too.
Don't just start popping 1000mg Vitamin C tablets because of some fitness blog. High doses of Vitamin C can sometimes cause mild stomach irritation or even interfere with the accuracy of certain home blood glucose monitors. Always confirm with your physician before adding high-dose vitamins.
Taking such a high concentration of synthetic vitamins might not be necessary for your body. Nature has provided us with amla, which is extremely rich in Vitamin C and wonderful for diabetes control. However, if your doctor specifically prescribed 1000mg, please follow their advice.
While Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and generally safe, a high dose like 1000mg can sometimes cause digestive distress or kidney strain over time. It is always best to let your doctor evaluate your overall health and decide if you actually require a high-dose supplement.

My teenager has type 1 diabetes and when they need extra immunity, the doctor said 1000mg is safe but told us to always buy sugar-free tablets. Many of the tasty chewable or fizzy options in the market are loaded with sugar, so please read the label carefully.
During my checkup at the hospital, the doctor mentioned that while Vitamin C is good, a 1000mg daily dose should only be taken if you have a specific deficiency or healing issue. You should ask your doctor clearly about the exact duration and dosage that is right for your body.
