Can diabetic patients drink alcohol?

I have diabetes and sometimes I like to have a drink at social gatherings with friends. My doctor advised caution, but didn't give a clear 'yes' or 'no'. Can diabetic patients drink alcohol, and if so, what are the safe limits?

I have seen many people struggle with this. Alcohol can cause your sugar to drop dangerously low, especially on an empty stomach. If you do drink, make sure you have some food with it, but really, asking your doctor is the safest path.

Ghar ke buzurg hamesha kehte hain ki nasha sharir ko nuksan hi pahunchata hai, sugar me toh bilkul bhi nahi. Agar aapko kamzori ya chakkar aate hain, toh turant doctor ke paas jao. Bina unki salah ke bilkul mat pijiye.

My doctor warned me that alcohol can block the liver from releasing glucose, leading to severe hypoglycemia. I completely cut down on beers because they have too many carbs. If you want to drink, definitely talk to your doc first.

This is a serious medical question and you shouldn't rely on online opinions for this. Alcohol interacts directly with your diabetes medications and liver functions. Please consult your physician to understand the exact risks for your body.

I didn't know alcohol affects blood sugar so much. My dad drinks occasionally on weekends and he has type 2 diabetes. Does he need to check his sugar levels before going to sleep on those nights?
