Can diabetic nerve damage be reversed?

My doctor told me that my nerve damage due to diabetes is quite advanced. I'm trying to control my sugar levels very strictly now. Can diabetic nerve damage be reversed with proper management, or is it permanent once it starts?

You can't fully reverse structural nerve damage, but you can definitely stop it from progressing. Lifting light weights and keeping your nutrition on point is the best way to improve blood flow and insulin sensitivity. Get your daily movement in!

Bro, honestly, the actual nerve damage is mostly permanent, but you can reduce the burning pain big time. I had crazy tingling in my toes, but once I brought my HbA1c down from 9 to 6.5, the pain almost disappeared. Just focus on your diet and medication.

I am newly diagnosed and my feet have started tingling a little bit. Is this the start of nerve damage, and can I stop it if I start taking my sugar medicines strictly from today?

Let's be clear: medical science says fully damaged nerves cannot be rolled back to normal. However, you can prevent further neuropathy and manage the symptoms effectively with proper glycemic control and prescribed nerve pain medications. Get a proper neurologist's opinion.

I get so anxious reading about neuropathy, every time my foot falls asleep I start searching if it's permanent! But my doctor reassured me that keeping sugars strictly in control really helps calm the nerves down. Please don't panic, just focus on your daily levels.

Both thyroid and diabetes can cause numbness in your hands and feet. While old damage is hard to reverse, you can prevent further numbness by getting regular nerve conduction tests and following up with your endocrinologist. Keep check on your vitamin levels too.
