Can diabetes cause hearing loss?

My hearing has significantly deteriorated over the last couple of years, and it's becoming difficult to follow conversations. I've been diabetic for nearly two decades. My son read online that diabetes can affect hearing. Is there any truth to this?

In our time, we used to put warm mustard oil for earaches, but diabetes affecting hearing is a different matter. High sugar weakens the delicate nerves of the ear over many years. Please do not try home remedies for this and consult a proper specialist.

Actually yes, it can happen, yaar. High blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels and nerves in your inner ear. Honestly, don't ignore it if you feel you are struggling to hear clearly, and see an audiologist.

Please get it checked immediately. I ignored a slight ringing and muffled hearing in my left ear for a year, thinking it was just age, but my doctor said it was nerve damage from my uncontrolled diabetes. Don't make the same mistake, go for a checkup.

Hey, don't worry too much, but yes, there is a known link between diabetes and hearing loss due to poor blood circulation. Let's get your sugar levels checked first and take you to an ENT specialist to see what's going on. We will sort this out together.
