Can diabetes cause hair loss?

Significant hair loss in the past few months has been quite distressing for me. I'm also a diabetic, and I'm wondering if there's any connection between my condition and this hair fall. Could diabetes be the reason for my thinning hair?

Yes, poor blood circulation and high stress levels from diabetes can affect hair growth cycles. I visit Fortis Hospital for my checkups, and my doctor clearly explained how hormone imbalances cause this. You should ask your doctor about getting a thyroid and vitamin panel done.

Looks like our hair is also trying to escape the high sugar tax! But seriously, diabetes can cause hair thinning due to poor blood flow. Just control your sugar and your scalp will start behaving again, don't worry!

I was losing clumps of hair a few months ago when my fasting sugar was very high. Once my doctor adjusted my insulin and I started eating better, the hair fall stopped and it's slowly growing back. Please get your HbA1c checked, it is definitely connected.

Our bodies respond to internal stress, and high sugar causes physical stress which sheds hair. Keep your mind peaceful, eat fresh home-cooked meals, and consult your doctor for guidance. God bless you.
