Can depression cause sleep loss?

Having a really tough time with my depression lately, I just can't seem to fall asleep or stay asleep. My mind keeps racing, and I'm exhausted but wide awake. Is this sleep loss a common symptom or consequence of depression?

I totally get it, lying awake at 3 AM with your thoughts racing is incredibly exhausting. Depression and sleep are so deeply connected that it feels like a never-ending cycle. Please remember you are not alone in this, and it does get better.

Haan na, completely agree with this. Jab dimag me shanti nahi hoti, toh neend kaise aayegi? Mere saath bhi same issue tha, so I started keeping my phone away an hour before sleeping.

Yes, sleep disturbance is a classic symptom of burnout and clinical depression. Practically speaking, trying to force sleep doesn't work, so you need to fix your routine first. If it persists for more than two weeks, book a session with a therapist.

Let's be direct: insomnia is one of the most common red flags of depression. Your brain chemistry is off balance, making it impossible to switch off. Don't suffer silently, speak to a doctor who can help you regulate your sleep cycle.

It is a two-way street; depression causes insomnia, and lack of sleep makes depression worse. Avoid taking random over-the-counter sleeping pills without a prescription as they can be habit-forming. Seek proper medical advice instead.
