Can depression cause hair loss?

For the past year, I've been battling a bad phase of depression. Along with everything else, I've noticed significant hair thinning and loss, more than usual. Could my ongoing depression actually be contributing to this hair fall problem?

Yes, chronic stress and low mood push hair follicles into a resting phase, causing them to fall out. Along with a good diet, getting some daily physical activity like a brisk walk really helps lower those stress hormones that damage your hair.

In my younger days, whenever I went through tough times, my hair would thin out terribly. Don't worry, once the dark clouds pass and your mind is at peace, your hair will slowly start growing back. Just feed your body well and be patient.

It is actually called telogen effluvium, which is just a fancy term for hair shedding triggered by severe mental stress. Check your iron and vitamin D3 levels too, because depression often makes us ignore our nutrition which worsens hair fall.

I ignored my sudden hair loss thinking it was just stress, but it turned out to be an underlying thyroid issue aggravated by my poor mental health. Please see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis before trying random hair oils.

Haan yaar, bilkul hota hai. Jab dimaag me tension chal rahi ho toh baal toh jhadenge hi na. Maine toh bahut chemical lagaye par koi fayda nahi hua, stress kam karo tabhi baal bachenge.
