Can dairy cause weight gain?

I'm trying to lose some weight, and my dietitian told me to limit my dairy intake. She said it might contribute to weight gain for some people. Is it true that dairy can cause you to put on weight?

I was struggling with weight gain for a year and realized I was consuming too much full-fat milk and paneer daily. I recently switched to low-fat curd and skimmed milk, and managed to lose 4 kgs in two months. It definitely makes a difference!

I was just reading about this yesterday! Apparently, dairy has healthy fats and proteins, but if you eat heavy cream, cheese, and sweet curd constantly, the extra calories will cause weight gain. It seems to be all about the portion size.

I always get so worried that my morning cup of tea with milk is making me gain weight. I keep researching about dairy and weight gain late at night. Honestly, it is so stressful, but I think moderate portions should be totally fine.

I totally get it, trying to manage your weight while keeping dairy in your diet can be so confusing. You don't have to completely cut out milk or curd, just try to watch the portions and choose low-fat options. Be gentle with yourself!

While dairy can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess due to high calories, sudden weight gain can also be due to thyroid issues or hormonal imbalances. Please consult a doctor and get your thyroid profile checked before making drastic diet changes.
