Can cpap cause bloating and weight gain?

For about six months now, I've been using a CPAP machine for my sleep apnea. While my sleep has improved, I've noticed I feel quite bloated and have actually gained some weight since starting it. Could my CPAP machine be causing this bloating and weight gain?

I thought my sudden bloating was because of my weekend chole bhature, but it actually started after using CPAP! Apparently, swallowing air is a thing. For weight gain, maybe check if you're eating more now that you have more energy.

Yes, sometimes swallowing air from the machine causes bloating. I found that doing gentle abdominal stretches and deep pranayama in the morning helps release the trapped gas naturally. Let your body adjust.

I have been using CPAP for over eight years now. In the beginning, I also felt very bloated, but adjusting the pressure settings with my doctor solved it. Don't worry, you will get used to it with time.

Bloating can happen if the pressure is too high. Since I have high BP, my doctor monitored my CPAP usage closely. Make sure you don't stop using it, just get your machine calibrated again.

Dealing with bloating and weight gain is so frustrating, especially if you already have hormonal issues. It could be due to swallowed air, but definitely check with your endocrinologist to rule out other hormonal shifts too.

Aerophagia causes the bloating, which is totally normal initially. Try a brisk 20-minute walk in the evening to help clear the gas. The weight gain might just be water retention or dietary changes, so keep tracking your steps.

I totally get it, waking up feeling bloated and seeing the scale go up is incredibly demotivating. It's actually a common side effect of swallowing air from the mask. Please talk to your tech team to adjust the pressure.

Yes, aerophagia (swallowing air) is very common with CPAP and it leads to that bloated feeling, which can make you feel heavier. Speak to your sleep specialist; they might need to change your mask type or pressure.
