Can covid cause hair loss?

Ever since I recovered from Covid a few months ago, my hair has been falling out in alarming amounts. Every time I comb, there's a huge clump. My friend also mentioned she experienced this after her infection. Can Covid actually cause such severe hair loss?

I literally cried seeing chunks of hair in my brush two months after Covid. But my dermatologist told me it's Telogen Effluvium, a normal response to high fever, and it stopped completely after some time. Don't worry!

Listen, hair loss after a major viral illness is very common because the body diverts all its energy to recovery. Eat a high-protein diet, don't stress, and your hair cycle will return to normal in a few months.

I am experiencing terrible hair fall post-covid and it's making me so anxious. Has anyone else gone through this? Does the hair actually grow back, or should I start some serious medical treatment immediately?

Yes, but don't just wait around. My hair loss was accompanied by severe nutritional deficiencies that we only caught after doing a full blood panel. I highly recommend consulting a specialist to rule out thyroid or iron issues.

Before you spend thousands on expensive hair serums and clinic visits, just get a basic CBC and Iron profile test done online for under 500 rupees. Often, it's just a simple vitamin deficiency post-illness that cheap supplements can fix.

I completely understand how heartbreaking it is to watch your hair fall out every day, it really messes with your mental peace. Just know that your feelings are totally valid, but this is a very common physical reaction and it does get better.

I went through this exact phase. Around 3 months post-covid, my hair fall started out of nowhere. I took biotin and iron tablets prescribed by my doctor, and thankfully the shedding has finally reduced now.

Yes, acute physical stress like a viral infection triggers a condition called Telogen Effluvium, where hair shifts prematurely into the shedding phase. A dermatologist can easily evaluate your scalp health and guide you appropriately.

Bro, my hairline literally receded so fast after I got Covid last semester. My roommate told me it's super common. I just switched to a mild shampoo and started eating more eggs, and it's slowly getting better.

Honestly, the hair loss post-covid hit my self-esteem so badly that I didn't want to go out at all. If you are feeling down about it, please know you are not alone. It takes time, but your body will heal and your hair will return.
