Can collagen cause hair loss?

I started taking collagen supplements a few months ago for better skin and hair, but lately, I've noticed my hair seems to be thinning more than usual. I'm wondering if there's a connection. Can collagen supplements actually cause hair loss?

Usually, collagen is taken to improve hair, not cause hair loss. But if you buy cheap, unverified brands, they might have additives that don't suit you. Stick to trusted brands and if you see hair shedding, just stop using it and see a dermatologist.

I actually had severe hair fall after starting a fancy marine collagen supplement last year. It turned out I was mildly allergic to the fish source they used! Once I stopped it and focused on a basic balanced diet, my hair fall completely stopped.

Generally, collagen shouldn't cause hair loss, but everyone's body reacts differently. Try stopping it for two weeks to see if the shedding reduces.

Collagen is just a protein, so directly it doesn't cause hair fall. However, if your body is reacting to the artificial sweeteners or heavy metals in some poor-quality powders, that can trigger shedding. Always choose pure, unflavored options if you want to try it.

Honestly, half of these collagen powders sold online are just marketing gimmicks. Why rely on random internet trends that might ruin your hair or health? Better to go to a proper dermatologist and get your vitamin levels checked instead of self-medicating.

I've been looking into collagen for my skin lately and haven't found any scientific link to hair loss. Actually, most articles say it helps hair growth. But yes, maybe some specific ingredients in certain brands can cause a reaction.
