Can chronic constipation cause weight gain?

Since college, I've had issues with chronic constipation, and lately, I've also noticed I'm gaining weight even though my diet hasn't changed much. I'm wondering if my constant constipation could be contributing to this weight gain.

It won't cause permanent fat gain, but chronic constipation definitely causes bloating and water retention, making the scale look higher. When you are constipated, waste sits in your gut, which adds temporary weight. Focus on high-fiber quick meals and stay hydrated during your work hours.

Yes, when your bowels do not clear properly, the body feels heavy and bloated, which can seem like weight gain. It is very important to clear the system daily. Try drinking warm milk with a little ghee at night, or soak some black raisins and eat them in the morning to help your digestion.

I completely understand how stressful this is, because I used to obsess over the scale going up when my digestion was bad. It felt like my body was failing me, and the anxiety only made my stomach worse. It's mostly just temporary water weight and bloating, so please try to breathe and be gentle with yourself.

Don't fall for internet theories claiming constipation causes obesity or massive weight gain. While you might feel bloated or weigh a kilo extra due to trapped stool, real weight gain is about calories. If your constipation and weight issues are chronic, consult a qualified gastroenterologist.

With PCOS, slow digestion and weight gain often happen together because of metabolic issues. While constipation itself doesn't cause fat gain, the hormonal imbalance can cause both sluggish gut and weight issues. I'd suggest speaking to your doctor to see if there is an underlying hormonal connection.

Yes, chronic constipation can make you look and feel heavier due to stool buildup and severe bloating. However, it doesn't cause actual fat accumulation.
