Can cervical cancer cause weight gain?

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few months back, and despite trying to eat well, I've noticed I'm gaining weight, especially around my midsection. I thought cancer usually caused weight loss. Can cervical cancer lead to weight gain?

While cervical cancer itself typically causes weight loss, the hormonal treatments or steroids used during cancer therapy can cause fluid retention and weight gain. If your doctor allows, doing very gentle, light walking can help manage fluid retention and keep your energy levels up during recovery.

From what I've read, cervical cancer itself doesn't cause weight gain, but treatments like hormonal therapy, chemotherapy steroids, or being less active during recovery can lead to putting on weight. It's actually a very common issue that many patients discuss.

I panicked so much when my mother started gaining weight during her cervical cancer treatments because we always associate cancer with looking thin. But the doctors told us it was just water retention from the steroids. It's totally normal and goes away once the treatment stops!

Dekho, cancer se direct weight nahi badhta, par jo treatment aur steroids chalte hain usse body mein swelling aur weight gain ho jata hai. Isme pareshan hone ki baat nahi hai, ye temporary hai. Bas apne doctor ko iske baare mein bta do taaki wo check kar lein.

Actually, cervical cancer is more linked to weight loss, but weight gain can occur as a side effect of chemotherapy steroids, forced inactivity, or early menopause triggered by radiation. Keep track of your weight and mention it to your oncologist so they can monitor for fluid retention.

I know it can be confusing to see your weight go up when you are dealing with such a serious illness. Often, medications like steroids cause bloating and water weight. Drinking warm water and eating light, low-salt home meals can help reduce the swelling, but do consult your doctor about it.
