Can celiac disease cause weight loss?

I've lost a noticeable amount of weight recently without really trying, and I've also been having stomach problems. My friend suggested it could be related to celiac disease. Can celiac disease typically cause someone to lose weight?

Unexplained weight loss is actually one of the classic presentation symptoms of celiac disease due to malabsorption in the small intestine. While a diet change is essential, you really should consult your gastroenterologist to monitor your nutritional levels and ensure there are no other underlying issues.

Yes, I lost almost 12 kgs in just a few months before I got diagnosed because my gut was completely damaged and not absorbing food. But once I got on a strict gluten-free diet, my stomach healed and I have finally started gaining my healthy weight back now.

It definitely does. My weight tracker graph was just going down and down last year despite me eating normal calories. Once I logged my symptoms and got tested, it made sense. Tracking your macro-nutrients and ensuring you get clean, gluten-free calories really helps in recovery.

When my weight started dropping drastically years ago, my whole family got very scared thinking it was some incurable disease. But once we figured out it was celiac and changed our kitchen habits, I slowly got my health and strength back. Have patience, beta.

It absolutely drops your weight because your body gets zero nutrition from what you eat. When I was dealing with it, I lost a lot of muscle mass too. Focus on easily digestible gluten-free protein sources like paneer, eggs, and daal, and do light strength training to rebuild once your energy levels improve.

My doctor explained that celiac disease damages the villi, which are the tiny hair-like structures in our small intestine responsible for absorbing nutrients. When they are flattened by gluten exposure, your body basically starves despite eating, leading to rapid weight loss. Healing takes time but it works.

Haan bilkul, weight toh bahut jaldi girta hai isme. Jab sharir ko khana lagega hi nahi toh weight toh kam hoga na. Aap thoda dhyan rakho, gluten se door raho aur dahi-chawal jaisa halka khana khao, jaldi recovery hogi.
