Can cavities spread to other teeth?

I have a deep cavity in one of my molars, and now I'm feeling some sensitivity in the tooth right beside it. I'm worried it might be affecting my other teeth. Can cavities spread to other teeth?

Rinsing daily with warm salt water can help reduce the bacteria inside your mouth. However, a deep cavity creates a constant trap for plaque, which will eventually damage the adjacent teeth. Home remedies won't stop this physical spread, so please see a dentist.

Yes, they absolutely can spread. Think of an active cavity like a localized infection; the bacteria breed there and can easily attack the enamel of the tooth right next to it. Getting that first cavity filled is the best way to protect your other teeth.

Yes, cavities frequently spread to neighboring teeth because food gets trapped in the decayed area, making it very hard to clean. Over my years of participating in this forum, I've seen many people regret delaying treatment. Please get it filled before it damages more teeth.

I literally just got two fillings last week because my single untreated cavity spread to the neighboring tooth over six months. The dentist told me that adjacent surfaces are highly susceptible to sharing decay. Seriously, get it filled now before it becomes a bigger issue.

In my younger days, I ignored a small cavity thinking it was no big deal, and ended up needing three fillings because the decay spread to the adjacent teeth. Don't worry, modern dental procedures are very simple and pain-free. Get it checked early to keep your smile healthy.

While keeping active and eating a balanced diet protects your overall immunity, it won't stop bacteria from migrating from one tooth to another. Cavities definitely spread to adjacent teeth if left open. It's best to treat it like any other injury and get it fixed by a professional.
