Can cataract surgery cause a stroke?

My aunt recently had cataract surgery, and everything went well with her eyes. But then a few weeks later, she had a minor stroke. Is it possible that cataract surgery can cause a stroke, or was it just a coincidence?

Cataract surgery is a very small, 15-minute eye operation done under local drops. It does not cause a stroke. Just make sure the patient's blood pressure is under control on the day of surgery, that is what actually matters.

Actually, cataract surgery itself doesn't cause a stroke, but any stress from surgery can temporarily affect your BP. I tracked my dad's heart rate and BP on his smartwatch before and after his eye surgery just to be safe. It's a very quick local procedure, so risk is super low.

My grandfather had cataract surgery last month and we had the same doubt because of his high BP history. The doctor told us there's no connection between eye surgery and strokes. He was perfectly fine and went home the same day.

I have had cataract surgery in both eyes, and I also have high BP. Nothing happens, don't worry. Just take your usual medicines in the morning of the surgery, stay calm, and follow the doctor's eye-drop routine after the operation.

When my mother went for her surgery, the ophthalmologist clearly explained that cataract surgery is non-invasive and done under local anesthesia, so it doesn't increase stroke risk. The only precaution is to continue regular blood pressure and blood thinner medications as advised by your cardiologist.

My mother needs cataract surgery next week but I am so scared after reading random things online about surgical risks. Has anyone here had an elderly parent with heart issues undergo this safely? Please share your experience, I'm really tensed.

Cataract surgery is so simple, my uncle was back home eating hot chole bhature within two hours! No need to worry about strokes, it's a very standard, safe procedure. Just let the patient enjoy some light food after it's done.
