I completely understand wanting to look and feel normal during such a difficult time, it is so valid. But chemical hair dyes can react badly with sensitive skin during chemo or radiation. Please check with your nurse or oncologist before booking any salon appointments.
Usually, we advise patients to avoid chemical dyes during active treatment because the scalp is very prone to rashes and absorption of chemicals is high. If you must, look for organic vegetable-based dyes, but only after your oncologist gives the okay.
I used to ignore warnings and do whatever I wanted, which landed me in big trouble during my treatment days. Please don't use harsh chemicals on your scalp without asking your doctor. The skin gets extremely sensitive during cancer therapy.
Beta, chemical colors are very harsh for the body, especially when one is unwell. Even natural henna can sometimes dry out the scalp too much. It is best to keep things simple and avoid these products until the doctors say the body is fully strong again.
Staying happy and positive is very important for healing. If coloring your hair brings you joy, that's great, but physical safety comes first. Protect your body from harsh chemical toxins during this delicate phase and consult your doctor.

My wife faced a severe allergic scalp reaction when she used a mild dye during her treatment phase. The complications took weeks to clear up. Please do not risk it and take clear permission from your oncologist first.
I panicked when my mother wanted to color her hair post-recovery. But our oncologist reassured us that once the treatment is over and the scalp recovers, it is generally safe to use mild, ammonia-free colors. Just check the timing with your doctor.
