Can breastfeeding cause weight gain?

I always thought breastfeeding helps with weight loss after delivery, but I haven't lost much weight. In fact, I feel like I'm gaining a little. Can breastfeeding actually cause weight gain for some women?

I can only share what happened to me. Everyone told me breastfeeding burns calories and I'll lose weight, but I actually gained 5 kilos! I was constantly starving and ended up eating double the portions. So yeah, for me it definitely caused weight gain.

See, breastfeeding makes you very hungry, so we start eating heavy things like gond ke laddoo and extra ghee. Thoda portion control rakhna padega. Healthy snacks ghar pe rakho jaise roasted makhana, toh weight apne aap control ho jayega.

When I noticed my weight going up post-delivery, I directly went to my gynac at Apollo. She explained that prolactin levels can sometimes hold onto fat, and we ran some thyroid tests too. It is best to consult your doctor clearly rather than following online advice.

Try drinking warm water with a little saunf boiled in it throughout the day, it helps with digestion and bloating. Ghee and heavy sweets should be taken in limit. But if you feel you are gaining weight very rapidly or feeling extremely tired, check with a doctor to rule out thyroid issues.

Oh absolutely! The post-feed hunger is real and those traditional laddoos are too yummy to resist. 😋 I gained a bit too, but don't worry, enjoy this beautiful phase with your baby first! Dieting can wait. ❤️
