Can bonnets cause hair loss?

I started using a silk bonnet at night to protect my hair, as recommended by many beauty blogs. However, I've noticed more hair fall lately. Can wearing bonnets actually cause hair loss?

Bonnets are actually meant to protect hair, but if the elastic band is too tight around your hairline, it can cause traction alopecia. I have to be very careful with this due to my PCOS thinning. Just make sure it fits loosely.

My sister started wearing a satin bonnet to sleep and noticed her edges thinning out. The elastic band was super tight and rubbing against her forehead every night. She switched to a looser one and it solved the issue.

Look, anything that pulls your hair constantly will cause hair loss. If your bonnet is squeezing your head too hard, it will damage the roots. Buy a loose silk scarf or use a silk pillowcase instead.

Wearing tight headwear during or after workouts can trap sweat and pull your hair, leading to breakage. Make sure your bonnet is breathable and loose. Focus on general scalp hygiene and daily exercise to keep blood circulation good.

If you use a bonnet to save styling time in the morning, just ensure the band is made of soft satin and isn't tight. Tight bands cause friction damage. It's a quick fix that saves your hairline and your morning routine.
