Can bad dandruff cause hair loss?

Had very persistent dandruff for months now, and I'm noticing a lot more hair falling out than usual. Is it true that severe dandruff can actually make your hair thin and fall?

Ah, the double tragedy of getting older: first your hair turns white, then the dandruff makes it fall out! Yes, severe dandruff causes itching, and scratching the scalp constantly weakens the hair roots. Go see a skin doctor before you end up like me.

I tracked my hair health on an app and realized my hair fall peaks whenever my scalp gets oily and flaky. A clogged scalp environment definitely leads to weaker roots. It is best to consult a dermatologist for a targeted scalp treatment.

I panicked so much when my hair started falling out in clumps along with dandruff. But when I visited a dermatologist, he reassured me that once the scalp inflammation is treated with a proper medicated shampoo, the hair grows back. It is totally temporary!

Please don't ignore bad dandruff. I thought mine was just dry skin and ignored it, but it turned out to be severe seborrheic dermatitis which caused massive hair thinning. I really regret not visiting a dermatologist sooner to save my hair.

Bro, definitely. During winters my dandruff gets crazy and my hair starts shedding like crazy when I comb it. I started using a doctor-prescribed shampoo and it stopped both the flakes and the hair fall. Just get it checked by a doc.

Dandruff itself doesn't directly kill hair, but the fungal buildup and intense scratching damage the hair follicles, leading to shedding. Try using an anti-fungal shampoo containing ketoconazole twice a week, and see a skin specialist if it doesn't improve.
