Can arimidex cause weight gain?

My aunt has been taking Arimidex for her breast cancer treatment and she's really concerned about gaining weight. Her doctor mentioned it as a possibility, but she's put on quite a bit and it's making her feel very low. Could this medicine really be the reason?

Yes, Arimidex alters your hormone levels, which can absolutely slow down your metabolism and cause weight gain or water retention. It is a very common side effect of hormone therapy. Don't worry too much, just keep a check on your diet and consult your oncologist before changing anything.

I have been on Arimidex for two years now, and I did notice some initial weight gain around my belly. What really helped me was reducing simple carbs, increasing protein, and doing light strength training to maintain muscle mass. Definitely discuss this with your doctor, they can guide you on safe ways to manage it.

My aunt is actually taking this medication and she was complaining about sudden weight gain and joint pain just last week. It seems like a pretty common side effect because of how the medicine works on hormones. Hope you feel better, hang in there!

Since Arimidex suppresses estrogen, it can definitely impact your body composition and make you put on weight. If your doctor allows, starting a daily routine of a brisk 30-minute walk and some light physical activity can help boost your metabolism. Just make sure to get their green signal first before starting any new exercise.

Dealing with hormonal medications is so tough, I understand how frustrating sudden weight changes can be because of my own struggles with PCOS. Since Arimidex is a serious prescription drug, the weight gain is likely due to the estrogen drop. Please don't try any crash diets, and work closely with your healthcare team to find a safe solution.
